Commercialization of the largest capacity smartphone with a 05035/0402 (inch) size 3-terminal capacitor

Murata Co., Ltd. decoupled the company's largest capacity smartphone with a 5035 inch (1.2mm x 0.9mm), 0402 inch (1.0mm x 0.5mm) 3-terminal multilayer Ceramic Capacitor. The 05035 inch size and the 0402 inch size respectively achieve a capacitance of 22uF and 14uF, which is mainly used on the power line of the APU* 1 . Sample shipments of this product have begun, the 05035 inch size is expected to begin mass production in October 2017, and the 0402 inch size is expected to begin mass production in June 2018.

The power supply circuit of the processor uses a decoupling capacitor to reduce the impedance, which suppresses fluctuations in the power supply voltage and stabilizes it. The higher the processing speed (operating frequency) of the processor, the more it is required to suppress the impedance to a very low frequency.

Compared with a general 2-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor, the 3-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor ESL* 2 is small, so that the impedance in the high frequency band can be reduced by using a small number of components. Because of these advantages, it is mainly installed on high-speed processors, and the use of smart phones that require miniaturization and high density is expanding.

By using MLCC* 3 cutting-edge technology, this product has obtained electrostatic capacitance of 22uF and 14uF in the 50535 inch and 0402 inch sizes respectively. This is the maximum electrostatic capacity of Murata. In addition, low ESL is achieved through a unique construction. Helps to reduce the size and density of smartphones.
